1 Timothy 2:1–7 (Focus on Verse 7)
7For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying) as a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
Focused Thinking:
Why was Paul appointed a preacher and apostle?
Because God desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Because there is one God and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.
Because Christ Jesus gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time.
Personal Application:
Why was I appointed a preacher for such a time as this?
Why was I appointed a preacher in this city?
Because God’s message must be proclaimed.
Because God’s message is our only hope.
Because the world is communicating more effectively than the church.
Because the world is speaking the language of the soul better than the church.
Because the world is more relevant than the church.
The message of God must be renewed to the next generation.
The message of God must be relevant to the next generation.
- We must communicate timeless truths in timely ways.
- We must use the culture to communicate what is timeless.
- We must create a safe place to hear a dangerous message.
- We must create a perfect place for imperfect people.
- We must present the friend of sinners to people.
- We must offer compassion without compromise.
Interactive Prayer:
Father, help me present You to this city in an anointed and authoritative way. I want to be like Jesus and teach as one with authority, not likes the Scribes and Pharisees. Father, I want to teach with Your presence and power. Father, give me Your vision for this city and this church. Father, give us the ability to do what we can do and to watch You do what we can’t do.
Father, give us exposure to the people of this city. Give us the opportunities and resources to get Your Word out, to get Your grace and truth out, to get Your mercy out. Father, give up the wisdom and resources to heal people. Father cause our people to hate sin and to love You. Cause a godly sorrow to fall over our people and cause them to repent. Father, give me the faith and leadership I need in order to lead our people to revival. Father, we can’t afford moderate growth; we need to see and experience the blowing of Your Holy Spirit. Father, too much sin and destruction is happening everyday. Too many lives and families are destroying themselves daily. Father, give us to desire and drive to be holy. Help me to be a man of greater spiritual discipline. Help me to push myself to the max in the pursuit of holiness.
