Ephesians 6:17–20
17And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints, 19and pray on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, 20for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in proclaiming it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
Focused Thinking:
What role does prayer play in our battles and victories?
Pray at all times in the Spirit.
Persevere in your petitions for all the saints.
Pray for your leaders to boldly make known the mystery of the gospel.
Where does our power come from?
The Word of God and prayer are the two weapons that God has given the church to overcome the enemy and attain victory (Ac 6:4).
- To watch and pray is the secret to overcoming the flesh.
- To watch and pray is the secret to overcoming the world.
- To watch and pray is the secret to serving God powerfully (Co 4:2–3).
Our power comes from prayer (Eph 3:14–21).
Personal Application:
- I need to be more sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit to pray.
- I need to be careful about studying too much and praying too little.
- I need to be more diligent to pray with Karin and the kids at night.
- I need to prioritize strengthening the prayer ministry at church.
Interactive Prayer:
Father, forgive me for not being more sensitive to the Spirit. Forgive me for doubting at times in prayer. Forgive me for not asking, seeking and knocking persistently enough. Make me more intentional and strategic in prayer.
Father, I pray that we will see more than 200 people baptized in 2010. I pray that we will see and experience life-change daily. I pray that our people will repent specifically of being casual, consumeristic attendees. I pray that our people will become committed and courageous followers of Christ.
Father, give us Your anointing to reach the prodigals of Memphis. Give us Your presence and power to free people from their addiction to sin. Bless Celebrate Recovery and free people from their addictions.
Thank you for answering our prayers about Overton. Father, give us more trust with the faculty, families and students. Give us the privilege of seeing the love of Christ through the body of Christ literally change a school. Anoint Bob and Patrick and give them wisdom from God and favor with man. I pray that more and more people in our church will serve and invest in these young men. Give us mentors for these young men and women. Give us the ability to make disciples. Give us the ability to meet the needs of single parents and help them to rebuild their lives. Help us partner with the parents and help meet the needs in their children’s lives. Father, make us a church that is known by “going into all the city/world to make disciples.”
Father, grow this church spiritually, numerically and financially. Give us the ability to reach people and equip people. Give us the momentum of the Holy Spirit. Give us the resources needed to get the word out and let people see, hear and experience what You are doing in and through this church. Father, anoint Imperfect.tv and cause it to have unbelievable influence and impact. Give us the resources needed to buy or build a facility that compliments our vision. Put our vision in the hearts of people with resources and move them to give.
