Matthew 5:8

Apr 22

8“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

Focused Thinking:

What does “pure in heart” mean?

Pure in heart” speaks to those who live inwardly clean from sin.

What do the “pure in heart” receive?

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

Personal Application:

Where do I possess these qualities?

The answer to this question isn’t about me and my desires; it is about the Holy Spirit changes my desires and giving me the desire to be pure in Spirit.

The Holy Spirit convicts me of sin, judgment and righteousness.

The Holy Spirit teaches me all truth and brings me into remembrance of truth.

The Holy Spirit is my counselor to correct me and redirect me.

My spiritual disciplines are an expression of being pure in heart.

Where do I need to develop these qualities?

I need to be more sensitive to the moment-by-moment promptings of the Holy Spirit.

I need to develop my prayer life more. The Spirit of God always creates purity of heart in my through prayer.

How do I develop the “pure in heart” qualities?

Interactive Prayer:

Father, give me the desire and determination to seek You with all of my heart. Give me the discipline to desire You and to deny me. Give me an appetite for the Word of God that can’t be satisfied. I pray that I would hunger and thirst for righteousness. I pray that the fruit of my desires and disciplines would be purity of heart. Give me the ability to love You with 110% of my time and energy. Help me to first and foremost model a holy life to my family and to my church.

Father, give me the ability to see the world with Your eyes. Give me the ability to see what You see and to do what You would do. Give me the faith and courage to act upon what I see the way You would act upon it. Father, fill me up with all the fullness of God. Fill me up with Your Holy Spirit. Help me accomplish Your purposes through the work of the Holy Spirit. Give me the ability to do far more beyond all that I could ask or think according to your mighty power.

Father, I can’t lead my life, my family, and my church apart from the strength of the Holy Spirit. Fill me with the Spirit today and give me the ability to understand Your Word as I hear it taught and as I study to teach it. Father, give me the ability to understand Matthew 23 for this Sunday. Give me the ability to see Your heart and purpose in the truths of that chapter so that I can equip our people to be pure in heart instead of being hypocrites. Father, be gracious to me and allow this message to come together quicker than normal since I’ve been working at this conference all week.
