12“In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
Focused Thinking:
WOW! How simple? How powerful?
“In everything…”
How important are those two words?
This is a “no excuse” policy.
This is the original “pay it forward.”
“treat people the SAME WAY you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.”
How many problems would that solve?
How many MARRIAGE problems would that solve?
How many PARENTING problems would that solve?
How many FAMILY problems would that solve?
How many FRIEND problems would that solve?
How many WORK problems would that solve?
How many POLITICAL problems would that solve?
Who else has one-statement truths that could solve all the problems of the world?
The Golden Rule—“Treat others the same way you want them to treat you.”
A New Commandment—“A new commandment I give you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you love another.”
The Great Commandment—“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength; and the second commandment is like the first, love your neighbor as yourself.”
The Great Commission—“Go into all the world and make disciples, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I’ve commanded you, and lo, I am with you always to the end.”
Love God, Love People, Make Disciples
Make God Priority
Make Discipleship Priority
Make Mission Priority
Personal Application:
I must make these truths the foundation of M28.
- M28 is more than an academic exercise; it is a discipleship experience.
- M28 involves information, but more importantly, it applies information.
- M28 is successful when the result is transformation instead of information.
I must find ways to re-teach and reemphasize God’s most important truths.
I must teach a series on foundational / transformational truths.
I must create specific ways for our people to apply those truths.
The church must become accountable to move beyond learning the truth to living the truth.
Interactive Prayer:
Father, forgive us for neglecting the foundations. Forgive us for neglecting the basics. Forgive us for making excuses. Forgive us for loving ourselves more than we love You or love others. Forgive us for the idolatry of “me, myself, and I.”
Father, give me the ability to communicate in such a way that we see it, we hear it, and we get it. Father, anoint Andy and me for the purpose of creating a movement of love. Give us the ability to experience Your love and to respond with love. Give us the desire and discipline to love others. Give us the gift of focus. Help us to maintain our focus and keep it clear and concise.
Father, give us the ability to grow new believers into mature believers. Give us the ability to grow mature believers into leaders. Give us the ability to love the unloved and to bring them into a relationship with You. Father, make us a church that is awesome at loving the unloved. Father, give us your anointing and favor to be a church that “goes in the world and makes disciples.” Forgive us for every area pursuit because it is the wrong pursuit. Father, good is the enemy of great. Give us the ability to master the basics for the purpose of being used by You in Great Ways!
